Mr. Morris Fisher “M.F.” Hoffman, age 88, of Lincolnton, died on Friday, July 21, 2017 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Long Shoals Wesleyan Church with Rev. Jon Mann officiating. Burial will follow in Pisgah United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday prior to the service at the church.
M.F. was born October 31, 1928, in Lincoln County to the late Miles and Mabel Lynch Hoffman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Eunice H. Hudspeth, Marie H. Austin, Lucy H. Reep, Martha H. Carpenter, Vernon Hoffman and John H. Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman was retired from Westvaco Industries in Gastonia and an active and faithful member of Long Shoals Wesleyan Church. He was known as a man of few words, but with remarkable mind and generous heart. M.F. was an avid collector, spending most Saturdays at flea markets and yard sales. If he wasn’t tending to his collections, creating a new recipe or reading the paper, he was in his favorite spot, his garden. For over 60 years, he grew food for his family and freely shared his harvest with the community around him.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Joyce Whiteside Hoffman and daughter, Kathy Boyd and her husband, Butch, all of Lincolnton. Grandson Gary Boyd, and wife Lindsey of Chapel Hill. Granddaughter Lea Binderup and husband Dave of Lincolnton. Great Grandchildren: Matthew Lail, Rebekah Chandler Lail, Brooks Boyd, Hailey Binderup, Kateasha Binderup. A sister, Ruth H. Smith of Lincolnton and a large number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Hoffman requested that in lieu of flowers, any donations in his memory be made to Long Shoals Wesleyan Academy, 3032 Wesleyan Church Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
