James Leroy Smith

James Leroy Smith, age 79, of the Brian Center, and formerly of Mayberry Road in Dallas, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2017.
His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Alexis Baptist Church with Rev. Sandy Marks officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:45 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Smith was born April 8, 1938, in Greenville County, South Carolina, to the late Wilford West Smith and Lillian Mae Batson Traywick. He served in the United States Navy and then later worked for 32-1/2 years as a service technician for Sears.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ruth McDaniel Smith of the home; a son, Mike Smith, and wife Suzanne, of Gastonia; a daughter, Tanya Smith Blythe, and husband Coy, of Lincolnton; and four grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Alexis Baptist Church, 118 Alexis Church Road, Alexis, NC 28006.
