Mildred Gabriel Finger
( September 5, 1921 - October 13, 2017 )
Mrs. Finger, age 96, of Lincolnton, NC, went to be with the Lord on October 13, 2017.
Her funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Boger City United Methodist Church with Rev. Ron Perry and Rev. Joe Ervin officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
She was born to the late Joe Gabriel and Charlie Howard Gabriel. Her brothers, Russell and Seth, sister Sue Jean, and beloved husband, Herbert Finger, Sr. preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Herbert Finger, Jr. (wife Dianne), and Tim (wife Rachel); grandchildren, Kelcy (wife Menta), Amanda (husband Ryan), Peter (wife Leah), and Rebekah Finger, along with great-grandchildren, Madaline, Makayla, and Reeves Finger.
Mildred graduated from Sherrills Ford High School in 1937. She was a “Rosie the Riveter” during WWII at the Martin aircraft plant in Baltimore, Maryland building PBY amphibious aircraft. After WWII, she met Herbert Finger, Sr. and they married in 1946. She served as the Secretary/Treasurer of Finger Brothers, Inc. and worked as a stay-at-home mother to her two sons. In her parents’ later years, Mildred was attentive to their needs and faithfully cared for them until their passing.
Mildred was a member of the “Order of the Eastern Star.” She was an active member of Boger City United Methodist Church, involved with the United Methodist Women, the Adult Fellowship Class, and the WADYS. When she wasn’t busy caring for her family, she willfully and graciously cared for members of the community.
Mildred was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She was known for her great cooking and relished any chance to spoil her children and grandchildren. She loved family, church, and pulling for her favorite sports teams.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605, or to Boger City United Methodist Church, 2320 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
