Rachel Shealy Abernethy
( August 29, 1929 - November 13, 2017 )
Rachel Shealy Abernethy, age 88, of Lincolnton, NC, passed away on Monday, November 13, 2017, at her residence.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at Boger City United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the service.
Mrs. Abernethy was born in Chapin, South Carolina, to the late Holmes A. and Corrie W. Shealy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 44 years, WA “Bo” Abernethy, Jr.; son, Frankie Robinson; sister, Bess Alice Epting; brother, George A. Shealy; and son-in-law, Rick Wilkes.
Rachel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. Rachel worked side-by-side with “Bo” in real estate for 40 years. They retired and, when not working on their farm, enjoyed traveling the country with family and friends. She was an active member of Boger City United Methodist Church. She served as the treasurer of BCUMC Women for 30 years, and participated in various committees and activities of the church.
Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Linda R. Wilkes of New Bern, NC, and Fran A. Cagle, of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Rachel Kathryn Wilkes Kaushagen (Matt) of Havelock, NC, Ryan Wilkes (LeighAnn) of West Salem, Wisconsin, Charlie Cagle (Mary) of Lincolnton, and Rachel C. Hammonds (Jason) of Lincolnton; five great-grandchildren, Clayton, Mason, Lyla, Emily, and Ruthie; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Rachel’s family wishes to thank her devoted and loving caregivers of the past year and a half; Annie Bryant, Catherine Nichols, Melinda Bines, Judy Lowe, JoAnn McCullough, Susan Pfeifer, Sherry Rhodes, and Dee Carson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boger City United Methodist Church, 2320 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
