R. Calvin Ward
( June 24, 1933 - January 2, 2018 )
Mr. R Calvin Ward, age 84 left this earth for his eternal home on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
A celebration of life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Friday, January 5. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 2:45 with the memorial service at 3 pm.
Mr. Ward was a Korean War veteran, serving in the US Navy from 1950 to 1954. He served on the USS Lake Champlain. He worked in textiles, retiring in 1998 from Travis Knit as the night supervisor.
He was also a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lincolnton, N.C. He served many years as a deacon, Sunday School teacher and was instrumental in the bus and breakfast ministry and the prison ministry in the 80's.
He was a faithful servant who loved his church and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Anna Ward, of the home, two daughters, Gina Rucker (Stan) of Lincolnton, Vanessa Weiss (Bill) of Maiden, two sons, Marty Ward (Edlyn) of Chattanooga, TN, and Jono Ward (Jocelyn), of San Antonio, TX, along with 18 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ward was preceded in death by his parents, Sherman Calvin Ward and Samantha 'Mae' Britton and his paternal aunt and uncle who raised him, Columbus “Lum” Anders and Nora Anders. He was also preceded by 3 daughters - Evelyn Chaney, Nora Murray, and Christina Black; 4 sisters - Bernice Holder, Belle Fisher, Ednal Dryman, and Esther Lindsey; 6 brothers - Rudolph Ward, John Lee Ward, Burgess Ward, Marvin Ward, Bobby Lee Ward and Grady Anders.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County. The family would like to thank Hospice for their kindness during the past 4 months. We could not have made it without all of you. Our father made it his business to make sure that folks had something to eat. Be kind. Feed the hungry. That's what my daddy would have done.
