Obituaries

Mrs. Catherine “Kitte” Clarke Cloninger, age 71, of Ratchford Road in Dallas died on Saturday, January 6, 2018.

Her funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hardin with the Reverend Jonathan Schnibben officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:45 on Tuesday prior to the service at the church.

Kitte was born July 5, 1946, in York County, SC, to Catherine McCarter Clarke and the late William John “W.J.” Clarke.  She attended Erskine College and received her undergraduate degree and continued her education at Winthrop University where she received her Master’s Degree in Library Science.  She was a retired educator having worked at Henderson County Public Schools and Gaston Public Schools.  After retiring, she continued her teaching career working at Gaston College with the ESL Program and the GED program at Gaston County Correctional Facility.  Kitte was also a missionary serving in Pakistan during the early part of the 1970s. 

She is survived by her husband, Roy M. Cloninger of the home; one son, William Roy Cloninger of Dallas, mother, Catherine M. Clarke of Clover, SC; one brother, Rhett Clarke and wife Carla of Clover, SC; one sister, Sheri Clarke of Flat Rock, NC; ten nieces and nephews and seventeen great nieces and nephews.
