Joel Herman Haynes
( January 8, 1928 - January 14, 2018 )
Joel Herman Haynes, age 90, of Butler Drive in Sherrills Ford, died on Sunday, January 14, 2018.
The graveside service has been rescheduled for 2:30 p.m. on Friday, January 19, 2018, in the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church Cemetery in Sherrills Ford. The family will receive friends at Warlick Funeral Home on Thursday from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m.
Mr. Haynes was one of 10 children, 3 sisters and 6 brothers. He was born January 8, 1928, in Lincoln County, to the late Roland Palmer and Eva Georgia Hoyle Haynes. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a son, Dean Haynes. Joel served 5 years in the Army with two years in Korea and 3 years in Germany. Afterwards, he worked for Duke Power for 30 years having retired in 1983. He married Sue Lutz on March 10, 1951, and was married for 63 years prior to Sue’s death on February 9, 2015. Joel and Sue spent their retirement years on Lake Norman living and playing with their family and friends.
He is survived by two sons, Joel Michael Haynes, and wife Nancy, and Larry Haynes, and wife Jeannette; two brothers, Charles Haynes, and wife Hester, and Hoyle Haynes, and wife Jo; three sisters- in- laws, Virginia Smith, Linda Rhinehart, and Katherine Haynes; five grandchildren, Leigh-Ann Lackey, and husband Jason, Kelly Diaz, and husband Wendell, Pete Morgan and wife Jennifer Morgan, Jackie Haynes and Brittany Haynes; eight great-grandchildren, Nolan, Julian, Alexia Diaz, Aiden, Emma, Sean, Oliver, and Henry Morgan; daughter-in-law, Shanoa Haynes; and two brothers-in-law, Ben Houser and Claude Lutz.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association of NC, 514 Daniels Street, Suite 109, Raleigh, NC 27605.
