Billy Joe Lawing

Billy Joe Lawing, age 83 of Lincolnton, died on Sunday, February 25, 2018.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at Boger City Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bigham officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Visitation will be from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 2, 2018, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Mr. Lawing was born May 11, 1934, in Lincoln County, to the late Lawrence G. and Edna Clemmer Lawing. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Helms Lawing; a brother, C.E. “Butch” Lawing; and three sisters, Rachel L. Hooper, Etheleen L. Green and Virginia L. Sanborn. Billy served in the United States Army and then later was plant engineer for JP Stevens. He loved his family and was a lifelong member of Boger City Baptist Church, was also a member of the Lincoln Squares square dance club, and never met a stranger.
He is survived by two daughters, Darlean L. Reep, and husband Charlie, of Lincolnton, and Billie Lawing of Columbia, SC; a sister, Betty L. Withers of Lincolnton; a grandson, Jacob A. Lester of Columbia, SC; two brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boger City Baptist Church Building Fund, 2201 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
