Samuel "Sammy" Hoover
( February 13, 1945 - March 25, 2018 )
Samuel David “Sammy” “Buddy” Hoover, 73, passed away on Sunday, March 25, 2018.
He was born in Lincolnton to the late Samuel Lee Hoover and Majorie Cloninger Hoover on February 13, 1945.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rebekah Hoover Martin and husband Jim Martin, and Ann Hoover Lanning and husband, Guy Lanning.
He is survived by a niece, Julie Lanning Tuttle and husband, Dr. Harrison G. Tuttle, and children, Winston, Hunter and Molly of Raleigh, NC; Betty Lanning of Clemmons NC, and his love and daily companion, Shania, a 12-year-old Border Collie mix who was by his side until the end.
Sammy formerly worked at Forest Lawn Cemetery. He loved his childhood home of 409 S. Grove Street where he resided until a year ago when he moved to Hillside Apartments in Lincolnton and gained a multitude of wonderful new friends and helpers. After undergoing open heart surgery in December, and recovering remarkably, Sammy passed away suddenly from a brain bleed. As an organ donor, his passing made it possible for several others to live by giving both his kidneys and liver. He was a joy to know and definitely a one-of-a-kind. He loved attending car shows with John James and stopping around town at various businesses to chat with special helpful friends. Special thanks to Factory Mattress Sales of Lincolnton and the wonderful Dixon and Rainwater families; Milton Baker with the Swap Shop, Steve at Pon & Rounds II, Melissa and the staff of BB&T of Lincolnton, and the staff of Lincolnton Animal Hospital.
Sammy had a special way of adopting you as his family. Among those fortunate people were Mike and Marsha Ross who have assisted him for 12+ years, Dot Wise, Angie Horne, Melea Tucker-Jimenez and Jerry Houser.
A graveside service is planned for April 9, 2018, at 3:15 p.m. in Hollybrook Cemetery in Lincolnton.
In lieu of flowers, funds may be donated to purchase a grave maker. Also, a forever home for Shania is needed. Please call (704)530-0405 for more information.
