Henry Wilson Hester
( July 29, 1934 - April 25, 2018 )
Henry Wilson Hester, 83, died peacefully at home on April 25, 2018.

His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Stanley Spence officiating.  The family will remain after the service to greet friends.  The graveside service will be in the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery.

He was the adoring husband of Jane Carlton Hester, his wife of 37 years, from Charlotte, NC.

The son of William C. and Flora G. Hester, he was born July 29, 1934, in Mocksville, North Carolina.  Henry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Clyde and Horace.

Upon graduating from Rock Springs High School, Henry joined the Army where he served for three years during the Korean Conflict.  Returning to Lincolnton, he joined the Sherriff’s department and served as deputy for many years.  He was later General Manager of Setzer Buick-Pontiac.  He was in sales with Abernethy Chevrolet-Olds at the time of his retirement.

He was a director and lifetime member of Lincolnton Country Club and a director of Hospice of Lincoln County.  He also served as commander of VFW Post 1706 for five years and is a lifetime member.  He continued to serve fellow veterans by providing them transportation to hospitals and doctors across North Carolina until his health no longer permitted.  

His favorite pastime was playing golf and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and especially his great-grandchildren, who have been his greatest joy in recent years.

He will be lovingly remembered by his children, Clyde Hester, Debbie (Ronnie) Mason, William “Billy” Hester, and Vickie (Scott) Rogers; grandchildren, Greg (Chasity) Mason, Amanda (John) Hargrove, Brenton Somers, Amber (Elliot) Aiken; great-grandchildren, Malli, Gavin, Hannah, Chloe, Caleb, Calvin, Wesley, Sawyer, and Avery; a sister, Frances Hester Sigmon; and countless loving family and friends.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to all of the Hospice nurses and staff who have been so supportive and caring during this time.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Lincoln County YMCA, Summer Camp Program, 1402 E. Gaston Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
