Roger Irwin Melson
( October 23, 1935 - June 2, 2018 )
Roger Irwin Melson, 82, of Lincolnton passed away peacefully Saturday, June 2, 2018 at home.
His funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church with Rev. Chad Walker officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018, at Warlick Funeral Home.
Roger was born to the late Margaret and Arthur Melson on October 23, 1935 in Stamford, CT. He worked for Chadburn Packaging for more than 25 years. He opened the first Pizza Hotline in Mint Hill in 1979. He and his loving wife, Nancy, operated Pizza Hotline in Lincolnton for 22 years. He truly enjoyed his customers and many became good friends. He had a special appreciation for the law enforcement community and always honored their service by seeing they were well fed. He was a people person. He had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. He loved to make others laugh. Roger was a kind and generous person who would help anyone in need. He was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church of Lincolnton.
He was preceded in death by his son, Roger Jr., and daughter Joy Smyth. He was also preceded in death by his brother Donald, sister in law Jane Melson, sister Doris Moody, and brother in law Bill Moody.
Roger is survived by his wife Nancy of 29 years, and their children: Peggy, Kelly, David, Rick (his wife Angie), and Hope; grandchildren Josh, Jessie, Christopher, William, Leah, Landon, Erika, Hannah, Judson, and numerous greatgrandchildren, and nieces and nephews. Roger had a special relationship with grandchildren Grayson and Samantha and their mother April, who were a big part of his life. He is survived by his brother, William Melson and wife Susan.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the “Picnic Shelter Fund”, Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 2639 East Highway 150, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
