Mrs. Dellinger is best recognized for her leadership, dedication, involvement and service contributions to her community, county and state. She dedicated her talents to the children and citizens of Lincoln County and the state of North Carolina by serving on the Lincoln County Board of Education, The North Carolina School Boards Association and the National School Boards Association. While education is known as a major contribution, she found the energy and time to support her church, family and numerous other organizations. She felt that her happiness came from serving others and living each day to the fullest. We remember Jean as committing her life to serving others. A quote from a local news article best summarizes Jean Dellinger, “Rarely in life do we have an opportunity to know a person with intricately balanced dignity, poise, combined with gentleness, compassion, and Christianity, which serves mankind in numerous capacities.”
Mrs. Dellinger was born December 21, 1930, in Lincoln County to the late Guy Little Sifford and the late Helen Harkey Sifford. On November 4, 1950, Jean married her sweetheart, Jimmie. They had six children, Gloria, Tim, Donna, Candy, Sandy, and Michelle. Two daughters proceeded her death, Michelle (1977) and Sandy (2013).
Mrs. Dellinger is survived by her husband of 67 years, Jimmie C. Dellinger of the home, a son, Timothy Dellinger and wife, Johnny Sue of Lincoln County, three daughters, Gloria Riehl, and husband Edward of Hertford, NC, Donna Luckey and husband Sammy and Candy Dellinger all of Lincoln County, a brother, Clyde Sifford of Wilson, NC, two granddaughters, Lisa Dellinger and Ashley Dellinger-Maddox both of Lincoln County and two step granddaughters, Amanda Deason and Sunni Mayer.
