Carroll McKinnon Morrell
( September 7, 1935 - September 11, 2018 )
Carroll McKinnon Morrell, age 83, of Lincolnton NC died peacefully September 11, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was born September 7, 1935, to the late Murray and Sally McKinnon. She was preceded in death by her son, Stephen Morrell, and her loving husband of 57 years, Robert Morrell Sr. She is survived by her son Robert Morrell Jr. (Marcia) of Lewisville, and daughter Sally Morrell Burroughs (Frank) of Waxhaw, her brother Murray (Mack) McKinnon and sister, Margaret McKinnon Harris. Her four grandchildren, Elizabeth (Beth) Morrell of Cary, Robert (Rob) Morrell III of Asheville, Sara Ann Sutton of Charlotte and Christopher Burroughs of Waxhaw will greatly miss their “Nana.”
She was a native of Hartsville South Carolina. After Carroll and Robert married, they lived in Arizona and Ohio, before settling in Lincolnton in 1970.
Carroll was a loving wife, mother and talented artist working in many mediums. She is best known for her watercolors. She shared her love of God’s world through many paintings, which won many awards throughout NC and SC and still bring joy to many.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Lincolnton, where she led Topagers, and taught Sunday school for many years. In the community she was active in cultural activities and will be remembered for the Carroll Morrell Invitational Tennis Tournament.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday, September 13th at Hollybrook Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 3pm at the First Baptist Church of Lincolnton. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
The family extends special thanks to the staff of the Abernathy Laurels of Newton, and Hospice of Catawba County for their care during her long illness.
