Joan Tate Snipes
( August 12, 1943 - October 17, 2018 )
Joan Tate Snipes, age 75 of Lincolnton, NC passed away Wednesday, October 17, 2018.
Joan was born in Daytona Beach Florida. She was the daughter of the late David Julius Tate and Cordelia Stamey Tate. She was preceded in death by her husband Gorman Hugh Snipes and seven siblings. Joan was a member of First United Methodist Church Lincolnton. She was active in many areas of the church and community including Girl Scouts, United Methodist Women and youth fellowship. Joan was involved in domestic and global missions over the years including many recent trips to Haiti. She was instrumental in the planning and building of the church fellowship hall. It would be common to see Joan in the church kitchen cooking for congregational meals and seasonal events. She was a teacher assistant with Lincoln County School System for 20 years.
Funeral Services will be at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 21, 2018 at First United Methodist Church Lincolnton. Rev Tony Matthews and Rev. Dr. Michael Gehring will officiate. Burial will follow in Hollybrook Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Warlick Funeral Home.
She is survived by her daughters; Susan Snipes Horvat and husband Andy of Lincolnton, Dana Snipes Svendsen and husband Thor of Charlotte, Carol Ann Snipes Houpe and husband Dean of Salisbury, Myra Snipes Haynes and husband Lee of Lincolnton; brother Jim Tate and wife Sandra of Cherryville and sister Violet Tate Anthony of Landers Chapel Community; sister-in-law Frances Tate of Concord; brother-in-law Charles Snipes and wife Katherine of Hickory, and sister-in-law Betty Snipes Jewell of Raleigh; grandchildren, Ariana Horvat Fisher and husband Josh of Cincinnati, Paul Svendsen and wife Loren of Charlotte, Jake Horvat and wife Meg of Winston Salem, Kellum Svendsen of Charlotte, Tate Houpe of Salisbury, Hugh Svendsen of Charlotte, Caroline Houpe of Salisbury, and Cordin Schrum of Lincolnton.
