Fred Hallman Carpenter
( November 21, 1927 - November 1, 2018 )
Fred Hallman Carpenter, age 90, of the Brian Center in Lincolnton, and formerly of Startown Road, died on Thursday, November 1, 2018.
His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at Salem United Church of Christ with Rev. Tim Wepner and Rev. Carrie Carpenter officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. on Sunday at the church. The family will also host friends on Saturday, November 3, 2018, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Freddie’s home in Lincolnton.
Mr. Carpenter was born November 21, 1927, in Lincoln County, to the late Odus C. and Susan Hallman Carpenter. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Audrey S. Carpenter, and a sister, Kathleen Turbyfill. Fred served in the United States Army during World War II, and then worked as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service from which he retired after twenty-eight and a half years of service. He was a lifelong member of Salem United Church of Christ. He enjoyed many years of travels with family, friends, and his wife, Audrey.
He is survived by a son, Freddie Carpenter, Jr., of Brevard; a daughter, Susan Smith, and husband Gary, of Brown Summitt, NC; a brother, Odus C. Carpenter, Jr. of Columbia, SC; four granddaughters, Carrie Carpenter, and friend Josh, of Lake Junaluska, Sadie Simpson, and husband Trey, of Brevard, Jamie Carpenter, and friend Ross, of Hendersonville, and Christina Scheper, and husband Pat, of Durham; two grandsons, Greg Smith, and wife Kellie, of Raleigh, and Brent Wuchae of Oak Island; and four great-grandchildren, Tommie Simpson, Emily and Patrick Scheper, and Kinslie Smith.
Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran and United Church of Christ, Building Fund, 3410 Startown Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
