Noriko Hino Shaw
( February 1, 1929 - January 10, 2019 )
The beautiful sweet soul of Noriko Hino Shaw left her earthly body the morning of Thursday, January 10, 2019, at home surrounded by the love and prayers of her family. She was born the second of five children on February 1, 1929, to Hironao and Eiko Hino in Tokyo, Japan. She was preceded in death by her parents, great-granddaughter Savannah Shaw, and husband, Robert Shaw.
Services will be held at Pleasant Grove United Methodist located at 2069 Highway 182, Lincolnton on Saturday, January 19, with Reverend Jim Sanders officiating. Receiving of friends will begin at 10:00 a.m. with a Service of Death and Resurrection at 11:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Noriko’s memory will be cherished by her children – Doris (Jimmy) Brown of Mocksville, Bobby (Susan) Shaw of Sparta and Judy Shaw Smith of Lincolnton; grandchildren – Robert Gosnell of Atlanta, Christy Keaton (Billy Palmer) of Jonesville, Steven Shaw of State Road, Benjamin Smith of Charlotte, Patrick (Tara) Smith of Gastonia, Bobbi Tate of Elkin, Kim Yancey of Charlotte; and great-grandchildren – Logan Cheek, Kaden Keaton, Addison Shaw, Aspen Shaw, Kayci Shaw, Kayley Shoemaker; and special friends – Bryan (Betsy) Gentry and Josh (Rebekah) Michael. She is also survived by her three sisters, one brother and their families in Japan, and sister-in-law, Opal Crouse of Sparta.
Noriko received numerous awards and commendation for her volunteer work with Lincoln County Schools, North Carolina Extension Service, Lincoln County Special Olympics, Lincoln Charter School, and the National Committee on Arts for the Handicapped. She also received the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Volunteer Services from Governor Jim Martin. One of the proudest moments came on March 27, 1981, when she was granted United States Citizenship.
Special thanks from the family are extended to the staff of Hospice of Lincoln County.
The family will be at the home of Judy Smith, 102 Moore Street, Lincolnton, NC.
