Betty Yoder Huss
( February 9, 1925 - January 21, 2019 )
Betty Yoder Huss, age 93, of Lincolnton, died Monday, January 21, 2019.
Her funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Daniels Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday in the North Wing of the church from 2:30 until 3:45 p.m.
Betty was born February 9, 1925, to Martin Luther Yoder and Katie Coon Yoder in the Daniels community of Lincoln County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin R. Huss; a son, Richard Huss; granddaughter, Kylie N. Tucker; brothers, Fred A. Yoder and James H. Yoder; and sister, Mary Ellen Zimtbaum.
Betty graduated from Union High School in 1942 and Lenoir-Rhyne College in 1946. She started teaching school at Howards Creek and Union, but spent most of her 32-year career at Asbury Elementary School.
Betty was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church where she was active in many ministries for 65 years.
She married Alvin R. Huss on February 15, 1947. They celebrated almost 51 years of marriage prior to Alvin’s death in 1998.
Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Susan H. Boyd (George), Carol H. Wise, and Kate H. Link; grandchildren Sara B. Schrum, David Wise (Charlee), Michael Wise (Abby), and Caleb Link; and great-grandchildren Rachel Schrum, Nathan Schrum, and Brady Wise. Also surviving are much-loved nephews and nieces.
