Michael Edward Huss
( July 7, 1947 - March 9, 2019 )
Michael Edward Huss, age 71, died Saturday, March 9, 2019, at Atrium Health Charlotte.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Rick Sloop officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul’s Cemetery, Pleasant Grove Church Road. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 13, 2019, from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.
Michael is survived by his wife of 49 years, Rebecca, daughter Jennifer Phillips and husband Deany, brother Randy and sister-in-law Robin, uncle Ralph Huss, aunt and uncle Ailene and Darrell Devine, brother-in-law Donald Houser, sister-in-law Pauline Houser; eight nieces and nephews, special nephew Trent Huss and wife Kesha, special niece Laura Fredell, eighteen great nieces and nephews, special great-niece Dixie Jean Huss, and special great-nephews Kevin Fredell and Gage Huss.
He was preceded in death by his parents Roy P. and Mary B. Huss.
Michael retired from Duke Energy with 29 years of service. He was awarded the designation of Certified Purchasing Manager in 2001. He was a member of the National Association of Purchasing Management. During his employment at Duke Energy he served on the McGuire Nuclear Station Fire Brigade.
Michael joined the Army in 1967. He is a Vietnam and Desert Storm veteran. He served in the North Carolina Army National Guard and retired as Master Sergeant E7 with the North Carolina Air National Guard; a combined 34 years of service.
Michael earned the Bronze Star Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Awards with 3 devices, Air Reserve Forces Meritorious Service Medal with 2 devices, National Defense Medal with 1 device, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Force Longevity Award with 2 devices, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Military Education Ribbon, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, and the Air Force Training Ribbon.
Michael was an active member of Crouse Volunteer Fire Department from 1977 through 2003 where he worked through the ranks from firefighter to Assistant Chief. Following his retirement in 2003, he continued to serve his community on the Board of Directors. He held the position of Vice President.
Michael was a lifelong Lutheran. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Crouse. Michael was a faithful servant to his church. He served on numerous committees and church council.
