Obituaries

Lena Black Reynolds Whiteside Penley, age 88 of Cherryville died Saturday, April 27, 2019.

Her funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, April 29, 2019 at Friendly Chapel Baptist Church in Lawndale with Rev. Norris Willis officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Monday prior to the service at the church.

Mrs. Penley was born on June 13, 1930 and was the daughter of the late Ephriam Logan and Mabel Devine Black.  She was also preceded in death by one daughter, Evelyn Maxine Young Ferrell; two sons, Michael Reynolds and Rick Reynolds; one sister, Gladys Hartman and nine brothers, Jack Black, Paul Black, Fred Black, Charles Black, Oscar Black, Clarence Black, James Black, Bob Black and John Black.  Mrs. Penley was retired from the textile industry.

She is survived by two sons, Walter Reynolds and wife, Jacquelyn of Sherrills Ford and Johnny “Frank” Reynolds and wife, Sheila of Shelby; one daughter, Patricia Mellon and husband, Toney of Shelby; one sister, Lola Whitesides and husband, Harold of Casar; 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
