Dwight William Martin

Dwight William Martin, age 98, of Salem Church Road in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, July 17, 2019.
His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 19, 2019, at Victory Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Clay Ledford and Rev. Dr. David Jarrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m.
Mr. Martin was born May 19, 1921, in Lincoln County, to the late Lee and Dessie Lackey Martin. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Carpenter Martin; a daughter, Cathy Shuford; and a grandson, Keith Shuford. Dwight served in the United States Army during World War II, and then later worked as a machinist. After retiring, he was able to pursue his love for horses.
He is survived by a son, Darrell William Martin, and wife Kelly, of Lincolnton; two daughters, Elaine McClure, and husband Jerry, of Lincolnton, and Sandy Gantt, and husband Ben, of Vale; a brother, Dennis Martin of Okeechobee, FL; a sister, Evelyn Humphries of Lincolnton; and twelve grandchildren, Lori McClure, Steve McClure, Kevin Goins, Sherri Keener, William Martin, Leslie Shuford, Jon Shuford, Ryan Shuford, Lisa Stalcup, Tina Ledford, Jake Garvey and Jessica Garvey; twelve great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Victory Grove Baptist Church, Building Fund, 457 Victory Grove Church Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
