Alex Michael Barnard

Alex Michael Barnard, age 66, of Iron Station, NC, died on Saturday, August 17, 2019.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019, at Denver United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Autrey and Rev. Tim Killian officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. at the church.
Alex was born November 24, 1952, in Salem, Indiana. He was the son of the late Claude Barnard and Irma (Deatrick) Barnard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers Roger and Greg Barnard, and an infant son. Alex married Peggy Hannel on April 10, 1982, in Palmyra, Indiana before moving to Denver, NC in 1984. Alex retired from Hall Contracting Corporation, Charlotte, NC, after 37 years as shop superintendent, heavy machine operator/mechanic, and truck driver. He was a member of Denver United Methodist Church and Upper Room Sunday School class. Alex always offered a helping hand for anyone in need and never met a stranger he couldn’t have a conversation with. He was a supporter of American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, as well as Habitat for Humanity of Lincoln County.
Alex is survived by his wife, Peggy Hannel Barnard of Iron Station; daughter, Heather Barnard Farson, and husband Jonathan, of Sylva, NC; sister, Claudia Barnard Coffey, and husband Gary, of Indiana; sister, Nancy Baker of Indiana; sister, Sandra Bowling, of Indiana; sister, Debbie Barnard of Indiana;brother, Jeff Barnard, and wife Connie, of Indiana; sister-in-law, Patricia Barnard of Indiana; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and beloved dog, Rusty.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society of East Lincoln, NC, Habitat for Humanity, or the charity of one’s choice.
