Obituaries

Sarah Lee Davis Swartwout, age 97, of Cardinal Care in Lincolnton, died on Thursday, September 26, 2019.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2019, at First United Methodist Church in Lincolnton, with Rev. Tony Matthews officiating. 

Sarah was born December, 24, 1921, at Breezy Point Farm in Hamburg, Alabama, to the late John Holmes Lee and Charlotte Parks Lee.  In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Davis; and her second husband, Lewis Swartwout.  She was a graduate of Judson College and worked as a physical education teacher, and then librarian, for the Illinois School System. 

She is survived by two sons, Don Davis of Clarkston, MI, and Lee Davis of Miami, FL; a daughter, Charlotte Ann Hair of Lincolnton; four grandchildren, Stephanie Mood (Frank), Jeff Davis, Marcie Finnigan, D.G. Hair (Beth); seven great-grandchildren. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC  28092.

She loved books, golfing, gardening, and her family very much.  She enjoyed life and brought happiness to all those she encountered.  She exemplified a true ‘Southern Belle.
