Obituaries

Joann Keener Houk McCarter, age 83, of Brook Hollow Road, Crouse died Saturday, September 28, 2019.

Her funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 4, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Scott Shoffner, Rev. Dr. Clay Ledford, Rev. Larry Little, and Rev. Ernie Richards officiating.  Her body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.  The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 3, 2019 at Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. McCarter was born on June 29, 1936 to the late Dorus and Rachel Miller Keener.  She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Roy E. Houk , her second husband, Morris C. McCarter, her brothers, Howard Keener, Hal Keener and Robert Keener, and three sisters, Maudella Hicks,  Margaret Childers and Ruthie Carol.  Mrs. McCarter was retired from Newton Glove and was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her son, Wayne E. Houk of Sherrills Ford; her step-daughter, Becky McCarter Ledford, and husband, Clay of Lincolnton; step-son, David McCarter, and wife Teressa, of Lincolnton; grandchildren, Matthew Ledford and wife, Kalyn, and  Daniel McCarter and wife, Chrissy, and  Megan McCarter; great-grandchildren, Anthony Mitchem, Aiden McCarter and Ryleigh Wyonia McCarter, all of Lincolnton, and numerous nieces and nephews of the Keener and Houk families.
