Ruth Johnson Willis

Ruth Johnson Willis, age 92, of Highway 274, Vale died Sunday, September 29, 2019.
Her funeral will be 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Hull’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Travis Elmore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11: 00 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at Hull’s Grove Baptist Church.
Mrs. Willis was born on March 27, 1927 to the late Vernon B. and Lotte Mae Hoyle Johnson. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert D. Willis; her son, Dan Lee Willis; four brothers, Ervin Johnson, Lloyd Johnson, Coolidge Johnson and Paul Johnson; five sisters, Marie Beaver, Dessie Shull, Ethel Houser, Ruby Dean and Edna Wilfong. She had a love of family and was a talented seamstress having made dresses, dolls, quilts and more. Mrs. Willis, along with her husband Joe, owned and operated Burke Farmers Market which was better known as Willis’ Curb Market in Morganton.
She has three, five generations surviving her which include her son, Dale Willis and wife, Pat of Morganton; her daughter, Judy Willis and partner, Beverly Griffin of Morganton; her brother , Gene Johnson of Clyde, NC; grandchildren, Dennis Willis and wife, Angela, Ronnie Willis and wife, Betty, and Danielle Gideon; great-grandchildren, Heather Burns, Landon Willis, Ashley Bunner, Amanda Willis and Brett Gideon; great-great-grandchildren, Graham Burns, Malakai Buff and Benjamin Bunner.
Memorials may be made Hull’s Grove Baptist Church, 6670 West NC Highway 27, Vale, NC 28168.
