Wilma Goodson Smith
( April 18, 1936 - October 7, 2019 )
Wilma Smith, age 83, was called to Heaven on Monday, October 7, 2019 after a courageous battle with heart disease.
Funeral services will be held at noon ET on Saturday, October 12, at Ivey Memorial Methodist church in Maiden with pastors Tim Byrd and Jim Matthews officiating. The family will greet friends and family from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. prior to the service in the church’s Fellowship hall. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Lincolnton.
Wilma was born April 18, 1936 in Lincoln County to the late Luie and Carey Goodson. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by brothers Calvin Goodson, Larry Goodson and a sister Elizabeth Schrum.
Wilma is survived by her beloved husband, Alvin Thomas Smith, Jr., of 61 years and her cherished sister Evelyn Fletcher. She is also survived by two daughters Lori Smith Dossey (Keith) and Cindy Smith Lancaster (Chris) and three revered grandchildren, Jacob Dossey, Mason Lancaster and Mattie Lancaster.
Wilma is a graduate of Lincolnton High School. She worked forty-plus years as a secretary for Exxon Mobile and Clark Properties before becoming a small business owner. In retirement she traveled, volunteered and spent time with her family, which was her greatest love.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Ivey Memorial Methodist Church, 1360 Ivey Church Road, Maiden, NC.
