Walter Edgar "Buck" Ballard, Jr.

Walter “Buck” Edgar Ballard, Jr., age 98, of South Madison Street in Lincolnton, died on Wednesday, November 13, 2019.
His funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 17, 2019, at Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church with Pastor Eddie Yount officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. at the church.
“Buck” was born November 21, 1920, in Lincoln County, to the late Walter Edgar Ballard, Sr. and Annie Hovis Ballard. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his siblings, Beulah Yoder, Bessie Ballard, James Ballard, Lilly Hoke, Ruth Yarborough, Vera Ballard, Fred Ballard, Lee David Ballard, Roberta Broome, and Sybil Wease. “Buck” served in the United States Army during World War II where he received a Purple Heart. Afterwards, he worked as a bookkeeper for Gilbert Beauty Supply in Charlotte.
He is survived by nieces and nephews, Donald Ballard, Bill Ballard, Marcella Justice, Becky Mitchem, Fred Ballard, Jr., Sharon Burns, Teresa Lail, June Jarrett, and Rita Mize.
Memorials may be made to Lincoln Avenue Baptist Church, PO Box 441, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
