Bonnie Mauney Mullen
( January 14, 1930 - January 25, 2020 )

Bonnie Mauney Mullen, beloved mother and grandmother died January 25th, 2020. She was born January 14, 1930 to the late James Burton and Pearl Cody Mauney. Her childhood was spent in Boger City, NC and she graduated from Lincolnton High School. All who knew Bonnie remember her for her humor, her outgoing nature and her ability to make friends wherever she went. From the children’s school events, ballgames, social functions and whether lounging on the beach or standing in line at the grocery stores, there were no strangers to Bonnie. She also cherished her special group of friends known as “sisters.”

She had a distinguished and fulfilling career in banking with First National Bank which is now Bank of America. Bonnie cherished many long lasting friendships during her banking career, having been a member of NC Banking Women that allowed her to attend state and national conferences. Her career spanned 41 years starting in bookkeeping and ending as Branch Manager.
 
She was a devout member of First Presbyterian Church. She served as Children’s Sunday school teacher, helper, choir member, circle chairman, elder, treasurer of Presbyterian Women, treasurer of 3 scholarship committees given through the church, and was a member of the church’s “pacesetter” senior citizens, later becoming one at First Baptist. She was awarded the Presbyterian Woman of the Year.

Bonnie was capable in soliciting funds for many charitable causes and the secretary of the United Way for many years. She also volunteered at the hospital and other meaningful charitable organizations.

Bonnie loved her family fiercely and seized every opportunity to share their stories. Her loving husband of almost 40 years, Dick Mullen preceded her in death in 1988. Her brother Sonny Mauney also preceded her in death in 1992. She is survived by her daughter Cindy Poe (Ron), two sons Scott Mullen (Ronda), and Stuart Mullen (Sheri), granddaughter Katie Wise (Rob), and three grandsons, Alex Mullen (Nicole), Drew Mullen (Whitney), and Matthew Mullen, great-grandchildren Luke Wise, Karis Mullen and Kelsie Mullen, sister Betty M. Graham, sister-in-law Betty Sain Mauney, and a host of loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

The family will receive friends at First Baptist Church of Lincolnton from 12:30-1:45pm prior to the service, which will be held on Wednesday, January 29 at 2:00pm at First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Holly Brook Cemetery.
