Joe Austin Gladden
( January 1, 1941 - February 25, 2020 )
Joe Austin Gladden, age 79, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went home to his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, at Carolina Caring in Sherrills Ford.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2020, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Greg Plott officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:15 until 1:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
Joe was born January 1, 1941, in Lincoln County, to the late Edward and Etta Huffstettler Gladden. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by brothers, Hugh Gladden, Herman Gladden, Jim “Raeford” Gladden; sisters, Sadie Smith, Faye Gladden, Hazel Childress, Ozelle Helms, and Ruth Kadau; son, Little Joe Gladden; and daughter, Jewel Gladden.
Joe loved his family and enjoyed working on cars. He ran Buffalo Service Station and Joe’s Body Shop for over 30 years. He enjoyed cheating at family cards, driving WAY TOO FAST, and playing with his grandkids, while teaching them all of his bad habits. He loved watching Tarheel basketball, westerns, and enjoyed camping with family and friends, and meeting with friends at Hardee’s.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Gladden of the home; a daughter, Crystal Mull of Hickory; a brother, Kemp Gladden of Conover; two grandchildren, Samantha Wilkinson and Jacob Mull; and one great-grandchild, Silas Lee.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Catawba Regional Hospice, 3975 Robinson Road, Newton, NC 28685.
