Charles Cecil Stroup
( March 26, 1926 - February 29, 2020 )
Charles Cecil “Brat” Stroup passed away on February 29, 2020. Cecil was born to C.D. and Vera (Seagle) Stroup of Lincolnton on March 26, 1926, as one of nine children. He is the last surviving family member. He graduated from Lincolnton High school where he was outstanding on the football field and was invited to play in the 1943 NC-SC Shrine Bowl game. He served honorably in the Navy during WW II from 1944-1945. Following his return to Lincolnton after the war, he served in various capacities: as an active volunteer in the Lincolnton Fire Department; Lincolnton Sports Booster Club; an active member of Emmanuel Lutheran church; a small business owner and active Rotarian. He was instrumental in the building of the Lincolnton High School football stadium and was himself inducted into the Lincoln County Sports Hall of Fame.
Cecil is survived by his children: Toni (Stroup) Hatch, Greg (Patsy) Stroup, Kevin (Margie) Stroup, Michael (Lori) Stroup and Justin (Kelsey) Greene. Grandchildren: Charles (Joby) Fredell, Charlie Stroup, Andrea Stroup, Peter G. Stroup, Jonah Stroup, and Garron Stroup. There are also six (6) great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Stroup. Step-children include: Ray (Nancy) Manus, Jr, Elaine (Barry) Crouse, Gail Gilbert, and Ann (Jimmy) Rudisill; thirteen (13) step-grandchildren; eighteen (18) step great grandchildren and five (5) step great-great grandchildren.
He was a beloved spouse, father, grandfather, great grandfather and Uncle. He will be missed by his Christian Ministries family, his church family and the Stroup family at large.
Services will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 5th with visitation from 1:00pm – 2:00pm, celebration of life from 2:00pm – 3:00pm, with a military graveside service following at Hollybrook Cemetery at 3:10pm.
In lieu of flowers donation may be made to Christian Ministries of Lincoln County, Inc, 207 S. Poplar Street.
Most recently he volunteered at Christian Ministries, providing him with a positive opportunity to continue to give back to his community.
He was a beloved spouse, father, grandfather, great grandfather and Uncle. He will be missed by his Christian Ministries family, his church family and the Stroup family at large.
