Fred Miller Houser

Fred Miller Houser, age 92, of E. McBee Street in Lincolnton, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 22, 2020, at Bethphage Lutheran Church Cemetery. Fred’s body will lie in state from 2:00 until 2:45 p.m. in the fellowship hall.
Mr. Houser was born December 14, 1927, in Lincoln County, to the late Lawrence Otis Houser and Virgie Mae Ledford Houser. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Lou Heafner Houser; a son, Joey Miller Houser; and a brother, Paul C. Houser, and his wife Joyce Houser. Fred was the first infant baptized in the present sanctuary of Bethphage Lutheran Church in 1927. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, then later went on to become County Manager of Lincoln County from 1955 until 1986, county commissioner from 1990 to 1992, treasurer of Bethphage Lutheran Church from 1962 until 2002, served on the Lincolnton City Council 1997 until 2010, a member of the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Airport Authority for many years; and served on the Lincoln County Economic Development Board for many years.
He is survived by a son, Larry Trent Houser, and wife Jeanne, of Lincolnton.
