Samuel Thompson Lattimore
( April 16, 1926 - April 25, 2020 )
Samuel Thompson Lattimore, age 94, of The Abernerthy Laurels in Newton and formerly of Lincolnton, died on Saturday, April 25, 2020.
A private graveside service will be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2020 at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Lattimore was born April 16, 1926 in Cleveland County to the late Warren Daniel and Sarah Gantt Lattimore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Alene Childers Lattimore; brothers, W.D. Lattimore and Rev. Frank Lattimore; one sister, Martha Greene.
Mr. Lattimore graduated from the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill in 1949. He served in the United States Navy during World War II serving on the USS Albermarle. He was the vice-president of financial administration at Duke Power until retirement in 1984. Mr. Lattimore instituted the use of computers at Duke Power and was known throughout the southeast. Sam, while representing the US Utility Commission at the Edison Electric Institute, helped develop the US Postal zip codes. He received the order of the Long Leaf Pine by Governor Scott. Sam was a member of Riverview Baptist Church for 63 years.
Survivors include one son, Mike Lattimore and Jennifer Lentz of North Wilkesboro; one daughter, Debbie Dysart of Denver; one granddaughter, Jennifer Wilson and husband Shan of Denver; one brother, Rev. Bob Lattimore and wife Sadie of Germantown, NC; two sisters, Mary Frye of Fallston and Betty Wright and husband Charles of Shelby.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Riverview Baptist Church, 2230 Riverview Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date at Riverview Baptist Church.
