Sarah Maxine Whitesides Pilkington
( January 28, 1934 - August 11, 2020 )
Sarah Maxine Whitesides Pilkington passed away on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at the age of 86. Maxine went to be with the Lord early in the morning on Tuesday. Maxine followed her late husband, Eugene Julius Pilkington, to heaven. Eugene went to be with the Lord 36 days before Maxine. Maxine and Eugene had been married for 69 years and had a bond that could not be broken.
Maxine was born in Gastonia, N.C. on January 28, 1934 to the late Andy Gilbert Whitesides and Tate Allran Whitesides. Maxine dedicated her life to raising her family of boys. She had three sons: Randy, Andy, and Lynn. She was a dedicated mother to her three boys and a dedicated wife to her husband. While raising her children and taking care of her family, Maxine also had a career as a Supervisor at Home Spun Hosiery. As her sons got older, Maxine enthusiastically took on the role of Mawmaw to her grandchildren. Maxine was never happier than when she was taking care of her family.
Maxine will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother. Her family will never forget her infectious smile, her never-ending love, and the smell of fresh-baked pound cake in her home. Maxine was the best mother her sons could ever have asked for and the best grandmother to her grandchildren. She leaves behind a legacy of love. Maxine was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ and she exuded the love of Christ in everything she did. Maxine is now with Jesus and will definitely be watching over her family until they see her again one day.
In addition to her husband, Maxine is preceded in death by her son, Andy Caldwell Pilkington; her parents, Gilbert and Tate Whitesides; her sisters, Inez Mosteller and Nancy Whitesides; and her brothers, Jimmy Whitesides, Charles Whitesides, and Robert Whitesides. Maxine is also preceded in death by Diane Houser, her niece, with whom she had a close relationship. She is survived by her sons, Randy Eugene Pilkington (Kathy) and Julius Lynn Pilkington (Ann); her brother, Gene Whitesides (Lib); her grandsons, John Pilkington (Jaimee), Mark Pilkington, Noah Pilkington, and Joshua Pilkington (Torie); her granddaughters, Rachel Pilkington, Kristy Copeland (Lance), and Brittani Medina (Edmond); and many great-grandchildren.
