Sarah Elizabeth "Sally" Rudisill
( November 19, 1924 - November 26, 2020 )
Sarah Elizabeth “Sally” Hammonds Rudisill, a resident of Lincolnton, NC for many years, went to be with her Lord on November 26, 2020.  She was born to parents Willie Lucinda and John Wood Hammonds on November 19, 1924 in Sycamore, Talladega County, Alabama.

While a student at Auburn University, she met Hugh Kenneth “Chunk” Rudisill of Lincolnton, who at that time was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.  The two were married and subsequently relocated to Lincolnton, where they together were blessed with a daughter, Gale and a son, Kim.

In the early years of their marriage, they owned and operated Rudisill’s Supermarket in Lincolnton.  She then went to work for Duke Power and received numerous Outstanding Employee awards.  She and her husband, “Chunk” later operated the very popular Lincoln House Restaurant, featuring superb American cuisine.  It was well-known for its outstanding Sunday Buffets that attracted customers for many miles.  Sarah was instrumental in the success of the Lincoln House and later published The Lincoln House Cookbook.

Sarah was the consummate hostess, loving mother and devoted wife.  She worked tirelessly toward the success of the family businesses and was a blessing to her family.  She was an active member of the Rhyne Heights United Methodist Church in Lincolnton, where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir.  Because of her passion for helping others, she so enjoyed volunteering at Lincoln County Hospital.  She was loved and appreciated for her kindness, generosity, and sunny personality.

In later years Sarah enjoyed visits and travel with her family, including trips to the Caribbean, the Panama Canal, Hawaii, and the western United States.  In the last years of her life she enjoyed the company of new friends and excellent care from the staff at Abernethy Laurels in Newton, NC.

Sarah is predeceased by her parents; her husband, Hugh K. Rudisill, five siblings, and a grandson, James J. Crudup, Jr.  She is survived by her son, Kim M. Rudisill (Vickie) of Hickory, NC, and daughter, Gale R. Crudup (Jim) of Marietta, Georgia.

Other survivors are grandchildren Mitzi B. Mattox (John) of Charlotte, NC, Trey Bondurant of Charlotte, Ben Crudup (Stacey) of Westmoreland, Tennessee, and four great-grandchildren.

She will lie in state from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2020, at Warlick Funeral Home.  Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family will not be present during this time.
A private graveside service for family will be held.

Memorials may be made to Rhyne Heights United Methodist Church, 520 S. Madison Street, Lincolnton, NC  28092.
