Leonard McDowell Saunders

Leonard McDowell Saunders, age 68, of Watts Street in Stanley, died on Thursday, December 17, 2020.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 26, 2020, in the Salisbury National Cemetery with Rev. Roger Overton officiating. The body will lie in state from 11:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, at Warlick Funeral Home for those wishing to sign the guest register. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the family will not be present.
Leonard was born February 6, 1952, in Lincoln County, to the late Jesse J. Saunders and Mamie Burgess Saunders. He served in the United States Army, and later worked as a truck driver for FedEx Freight in Hickory.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Saunders, of the home; a daughter, AJ Ruc, and wife Christina Ruc, of Concord; son, Christopher Liles, and wife Stacy, of Charlotte; two grandchildren, Hayley and Nathan Liles; sisters, Joanne Hamilton and Nina Martin, both of Lincolnton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
