James David and Evelyn Whiteside Helms

James David Helms, age 66, of 291 Grandview Lane in Lincolnton, died on Monday, November 16, 2020. His wife, Evelyn Whiteside Helms, age 73, died on Friday, December 18, 2020.
Mr. Helms was born September 27, 1954, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Gerald C. Helms and Joyce Deese Helms. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a daughter, Shelley Mellon. He worked as a mechanic for Wal-Mart.
Mrs. Helms was born September 20, 1947, in Temple, Texas, to the late Arnold Lee Whiteside, Jr. and Faye Carroll Whiteside. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter and a sister.
He is survived by his daughter, Jessica Rivas, and husband Jess, of Lincolnton; a brother, Gerald Helms of Raleigh; two sisters, Judy Jenkins of Lancaster, SC, and June Helms of Wingate; and eight grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessica Rivas, and husband Jess, of Lincolnton; half-brother, Bill Whiteside of Gastonia; sister, Nancy Dutton of Kentucky; and eight grandchildren.
A graveside service with inurnment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 28, 2020, in Hollybrook Cemetery with Pastor Michael Collins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1901 Brunswick Avenue, Suite 100, Charlotte, NC 28207, or to Lincoln County Relay for Life.
