Robert Ford Rowell
( October 19, 1944 - February 2, 2021 )
Bob was proud of his 20 years in the Air Force (1968 – 1988) followed by another career in Non Profit Management. He loved his children – Kristin Rowell Sipma and Robbie Rowell (who passed away in October, 2015) and his granddaughter, Taylor Rae Rowell.
He loved to say “Yes, I am a Rocket Scientist” as he worked on several NASA projects as a Senior Engineering Scientist, Senior Logistics Analyst and was Executive Director of the Institute for Space Technology. He became a Certified Association Executive in 2001 and served as Executive Director for the National Art Materials Trade Association, the Alpaca Owners & Breeders Association, and others. He worked with Junior Achievement in Charlotte, NC, and brought that program to the Denver-Lake Norman Rotary where he was a member since 2001.
Bob was born in Minneapolis, MN, and graduated from Ames High School and Iowa State University, where he was a track athlete. He loved to say that he “grew up on a farm” which he did in Hastings, MN.
Since 1998 he had been an active member of The Episcopal Church of St. Peter by-the-Lake in Denver, NC.
Besides his parents, Robert G. & Virginia Rowell, and son, Robbie, he was also predeceased by his brother, Bill, and his sister, Charlotte. He is survived by his wife, Carole Kraus Rowell, and his daughter, Kristin, and Granddaughter, Taylor Rae.
Burial at Arlington National Cemetery will be in the Spring. A Celebration of Life will be held once the COVID restrictions have lifted.
Donations to either The Episcopal Church of St. Peter-by-the Lake, 8433 Fairfield Forest Rd., Denver, NC 28037 ATTN: Christian Formation or Salvation Army ARC, ATTN: Tonette Thomas, 1023 Central Avenue, Charlotte, NC 28204.
