Helga Margareta Schon Reel
( October 17, 1941 - February 3, 2021 )
Helga Schon Reel, 79, of Dan Reel Rd, Denver, NC, passed away on 2/3/2021. Mrs. Reel was born on Oct. 17, 1941 in Speyer, Germany and was the daughter of Ludwig and Miena Schon. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dan “Chief” Reel Jr., and daughter Monica Simone Reel.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 6, 2021, in the Amity Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Mike Collins officiating. The body will lie in state from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Friday at Warlick Funeral Home for those wishing to sign the guest register.
She came to the US after marrying her Army sweetheart in 1959. She taught herself English, and in 1971 became a Naturalized Citizen of the US. She was an excellent seamstress. She was a loving mother and an awesome Mamaw.
She is survived by a son, Dan Reel III (Suz), a daughter, Bonita Rhyne (Mark), granddaughters Hayley Ellington and Savannah Rhyne, grandson Michael Rhyne and great grandchildren Caiden and Ava Ellington and Maddox Rhyne, sister Gertrude Ziesler, sister in laws, several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at Hickory Village Memory Care for the support and love they showed our mother the past 2 years. Especially during the pandemic when families were unable to visit.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
