Camilla Alice Brendle Daniels
( June 24, 1923 - February 13, 2021 )
Mrs. Camilla Alice Brendle Daniels, age 97, passed away and entered her heavenly home peacefully on Saturday, February 13, 2021.
She was born on June 24, 1923 to the late Grover Voyde Brendle and Zula Propst Brendle of Vale, NC. Mrs. Daniels was also preceded in death by her husband, Byron L. Daniels, three sisters, Geneva, Gladys and Ann and six brothers, Bryan, Jim, Joe, Steve, Stowe and Pate. She was especially proud of her grandfather, Joseph Brendle who helped establish Hulls Grove Baptist Church in Vale, NC in the 1800’s
Camilla graduated from North Brook High School and enjoyed attending her 50th reunion with her classmates. Camilla enjoyed remembering her younger years when she spent time traveling across the country on the train during World War II. After the War she lived in Lincolnton, Wilkesboro and Reidsville, NC and settled in Daytona Beach, FL for forty years. Some of her family’s most cherished memories are the many years she lived in Daytona Beach creating memories on the beach and always having a pot of shrimp waiting for them when they arrived.
She was a sales associate for Belk Lindsay and looked forward to the winter months when the lady “snowbirds’ returned for her fashion advice. She was ahead of her day as a “personal shopper”!
Camilla returned to Lincolnton in 2000 where she enjoyed visiting with her brothers and sisters and making new friends in her neighborhood and at the First Baptist Church.
Eight years later she moved to Creekside Terrace Retirement Community in Winston-Salem where she took dance lessons, enjoyed many of their activities and served as a “Resident Ambassador”.
Mrs. Daniels is survived by her daughter, Judy Newton Scurry of Winston-Salem, N.C. ; her grandson, Dr. W. Cooper Scurry (Cherryel Sink); granddaughter, Wendy Scurry Frady (Bryan); great-grandchildren, William , Winston, Campbell and Millie Scurry and Henry, Gunnar and Alistair Frady. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Sue Brendle; step-children, Bill Daniels, Charles Daniels (Cindy), Doris Jean Kerns, Margie Besley (Oliver), Mildred Stephens, Janet Daniels; nephews, nieces, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. She was known by her friends as “Millie”, and to her grandchildren as “Mimi” and “GrandMillie”. She was especially proud of her grandchildren and cherished her great-grandchildren with her gentle and humble spirit. She was always finding ways to make others feel special and she never forgot a birthday!
Mrs. Daniels family appreciates all the support they have received from their family, friends and neighbors. Special gratitude is extended to her physicians, nurses, therapists and caregivers at Creekside Terrace and Oak Forest Healthcare Center.
Observing Covid-19 precautions, a graveside service will be held Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Hulls Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Vale, N.C. at 2:30 p.m.
