Ralph Franklin Sisk

Ralph Franklin Sisk, 99, of Lincolnton passed away on May 14, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center of Gastonia. He was born on March 28, 1922 in Lincoln County to the late Gordon and Nettie Sisk.  After working for Public Service Gas Company of Gastonia for many years, he retired in 1987.    

Mr. Sisk, a proud and decorated WWII veteran, earned numerous awards, including two Bronze Star medals for his service in the European African Middle Eastern Theater of Operations as a rifleman.  He was also a trained Army paratrooper.   Ralph was a valued member of the community:  he was named Lincoln County Veteran of the Year in 2011, served on the rifle squad in the Disabled American Veterans, was a member of the Last Man’s Club (composed of WWII veterans of Lincoln County), served as a Civil Air Patrol Pilot patrolling Lake Norman, and was a long-time member of Boger City Baptist Church

His love of flying began at the early age of ten at an airstrip in the Howard’s Creek Community where he assisted pilots and enjoyed his first airplane ride.  Mr. Sisk maintained a current pilot’s license.  Ralph relished the opportunity to share his many wonderful memories of his passion for flying, his service in WWII and his experiences at the Lincolnton-Lincoln County Regional Airport.

Mr. Sisk was devoted to his family and loved them dearly.  He is survived by his daughter, Tammie, son-in-law Danny Long, with whom he resided, granddaughter Sarah Long, and great grandsons Peyton and Mason Helms.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sarah Arney Sisk, the love of his life.  In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Sisk was also preceded in death by his granddaughter Kandace Long Helms and infant grandson Franklin Robert Long, brothers Clarence, George and Herman Sisk, sisters Ruby Heavner McNeill, Luzell Barker, and an infant sister.

His service will be at Boger City Baptist Church on Tuesday, May 18 at 3 p.m.  His body will lie in state from 1:30 - 2:45 p.m.  Interment will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
