Shirley Ruth Whitesides Gibson

Shirley Ruth Whitesides Gibson, age 85, of 1995 Gastonia Highway in Lincolnton, died on Monday, June 14, 2021.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Farnsworth, Rev. Greg Ballard, and Rev. Andy Raines officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:00 until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.
Ruth was born February 8, 1936, in Lincoln County, to the late Avery and Amey Laney Whitesides. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Gibson; daughter-in-law, Theresa “TP” Gibson; brother, Paul Whitesides; sisters-in-law; and brothers-in-law. She taught in Gaston County for 33 years and also in private schools for the last 15 years.
Ruth began her 33 year teaching career in North Carolina teaching Bible at night. Her family was important to her, but most importantly was serving the Lord.
She is survived by a son, David E. Gibson of Bessemer City; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Southside Baptist Church, 1725 Southside Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092, Gideons International – Lincoln West Gideons, PO Box 1074, Lincolnton, NC 28093, or to Christian Ministry of Lincoln County, PO Box 423, Lincolnton, NC 28093.
