Obituaries

Mr. Roger Gene Costner, age 72, of Seagletown Road in Vale, passed away on Friday, October 15, 2021. 

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Hardin Community Baptist with Pastor Fain Farmer and Justin Driver officiating.  Burial will follow in the Hardin Community Baptist Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 prior to the service at the church.

Mr. Costner was born October 1, 1949 in Gaston County to the late Reid Milton and Ruth Bumgardner Costner.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Jay Costner and Robert Costner, and two sisters, Faye Costner and Marge Blattau.  Mr. Costner was a veteran of the United States Army.

He is survived by two daughters, Angela Willard and husband David of Vale, Lynn Smith and husband Roger of Vale; one brother, Clyde Costner of Dallas; four sisters, Pat Rankin of Winnabow, NC, Lois Ingle of Dallas, Sarah Bundy of Dallas, and Geraldine Lorraine of Blacksburg, SC; grandchildren, Tyler Smith of Lincolnton, Amber Willard of Dallas, Zackery Smith of North Dakota, Brett Willard of Vale; great grandchildren, Nataleigh Willard, Brayden Willard and Brooks Willard.
