Anna Vea Hughes Ward
( April 22, 1933 - March 8, 2022 )
Anna Vea Hughes Ward was born on April 22, 1933. She left her earthly home on March 8, 2022. Anna was a loving wife, a devoted mother and she loved children. During her life she wore many hats. She worked in hosiery mills, cotton mills and furniture companies and daycare facilities. She was a talented seamstress and more importantly, she was a great cook. Sunday dinner after church was her domain. Nobody could make Anna’s chicken pie or her biscuits.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, 2022, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bruce Brooks officiating. The family will greet guests following the service. Masks are required.
More to the point. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. On Sunday while dinner was finishing up, she loved to play video games with her grandkids. I think she loved it more than they did. She leaves behind a treasure chest of memories and love.
In addition to her parents, Avery and Mallie Hughes , Anna was preceded in death by her loving husband, Calvin Ward; daughters, Nora Murray, Christina Black, and Evelyn Chaney. Also preceded by 6 sisters and 2 brothers.
She is survived by three sisters, Agnes Kent, Mary Corn and Hope Reeves; her daughters Gina Rucker (Stan), Vanessa Weiss (Bill); two sons Marty Ward, Jono Ward (Jocelyn). Also left to carry on her legacy, grandchildren Melanie Burgess, Kevin Ledford, Kelly McCumber, Adam Keener, Alice Weiss, Lindsey Taylor, Marty Ward Jr, Marisa Ward, Hannah Ward, Eli Ward, Abby Bess, Mark Bess, Michael Bess, Brittney Belue, Jonh Ward, Paulheen Ward, Princess Ward, and Bryan Ward; great-grandchildren Mercer, Cooper, Baker and Sadie Ledford, Zoe and Zada McCumber, Caroline and Ansley Burgess, Emma Ward, Able Keener, Dawson and Hunter Taylor; along with a multitude of nieces and nephews.
She will live on in our memories forever.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
