Charles McFerrin Hartsock, III
( May 19, 1946 - June 2, 2022 )
Charles “Mac” Hartsock, 76, of Lincolnton passed away from cancer at home on June 2, 2022.  Mac was born in Raleigh, North Carolina to Charles and Georgia Hartsock.

He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Linda; brother Tom Hartsock and wife Debbie of Mount Holly; sister Ann McEwen and husband Sam of Raleigh; stepdaughter Melissa Kelley and husband Chris of Maryville, TN; nephews Matt Hartsock and wife Heather of Mount Holly and Neil McEwen and wife Laura of Raleigh; and niece Jessica McEwen of New York City.

Mac was a graduate of Broughton High School and NC State University.  He loved to read and he had a strong desire to travel.  In his VW camper, he made several long trips out west, visiting National Parks and Native American Heritage Sites in the U.S. and Canada. He settled in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he married Linda, who shared his love for travel.  Her work in the Foreign Service gave them the opportunity to live and work in nine different countries, and travel to eighteen more.  They retired after twenty years with the State Department, but their wanderlust kept them traveling, off and on, for several more years.

After retirement, Lincolnton was home, an area where Mac’s roots reach back more than 200 years to when his Hartsock, Cline and Starr ancestors first arrived in Lincoln and Catawba Counties.  The area was a treasure trove for Mac’s diligent genealogical pursuits, which included hours spent at the Lutheran church cemeteries of Old St. Paul’s, St. James and many others.

He enjoyed visits with friends and family, and frequent walks with his dog, Sonia.  Mac’s kindness and humor are gifts that will be treasured always.

A private family service will be held in Raleigh in the near future.  Memorial contributions to honor Mac may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care Lincoln County, 900 Dontia Drive, Lincolnton, NC  28092.
