Rachel Inez Johnson Ballenger

Rachel Inez Johnson Ballenger, age 85, of Peak Resources in Cherryville, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2022.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 12, 2022, at River View Baptist Church with Pastor Barry Brookshire and Rev. Ricky Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 p.m. at the church prior to the service.
Mrs. Ballenger was born January 23, 1937, in Lincoln County, to the late Leroy and Maude Beatty Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Ballenger; daughter, Joan Ballenger; grandchild, Davis Sherrill; and eight siblings. She was an instructor for J.P. Stevens.
She is survived by a daughter, Betty “Betsy” Rhodes of Cherryville; two granddaughters, Jamie Sherrill (Clay), and Amanda Stroupe (Benjamin) all of Cherryville; brother, Ronald Johnson (Donna) of Hickory; sister, Susie Cardarelli (Johnny) of Myrtle Beach, SC; eight great-grandchildren, Nick Heavner, Will Heavner, Ella Sherrill, Graham Sherrill of Cherryville, Matthew Rhodes (Jade) of Kings Mountain, Colton Stroupe of Cherryville, Reid Stroupe of Cherryville, and Miles Stroupe of Cherryville; and two great-great-grandchildren, Malachi Rhodes and Keelan Rhodes.
Memorials may be made to River View Baptist Church, 2230 Riverview Road, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
