Shirley Kiser Peeler
( July 20, 1932 - March 2, 2023 )
Shirley Rachel Kiser Peeler born on July 20, 1932 passed safely into the arms of Jesus and joined her husband of 54 years Paul Eugene Peeler.
 
She always had a way of seeing purpose in everything and no doubt she knew her own purpose and she lived it fully. After a lifetime of wholeheartedly loving and serving her family, Shirley Peeler is reunited with those that have gone before her. Her 90 year old body is new and she is delighting in all the treasures stored up for her alongside her heavenly father. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Paul Peeler, her mother Gertrude Kiser and father Ernest Kiser, brothers David Kiser, Paul Kiser, Johnny Kiser, Billy Kiser, sister Carolyn Kiser and children Paul Peeler Jr. and Monte Peeler and grandchild Shannon Peeler. She is survived by her sister Dianne Hollis, her son Gary Peeler (Lois Peeler) and daughter Kippen Southerland (Bill Southerland) and grandchildren: Jeremy Peeler, Elizabeth Peeler, Jillian Myers, William Southerland (Kelli Southerland), Paul Southerland (Tori Southerland), Katherine Beekman (Dan Beekman), and great-grandchildren: Justin Peeler, Meredith Peeler, Caleb Woodrow, Andrew Myers, Lilly Myers, Luke Myers, Lydia Myers, Grace Beekman, Madelyn Beekman, Hyden Southerland, Elsie Southerland, Aubrey Beekman, Olivia Southerland, Beau Southerland and Nola Southerland.

As a girl, Shirley cared for her siblings while her mother worked. At the age of 12 she delivered the Charlotte newspaper after and on the weekends delivering the paper to over 100 customers on foot. She worked for Burris manufacturing until she turned 14 when she went to work for the 5 and 10 cent store, where she met Paul, and then later for Belk in uptown Charlotte. As she followed Paul’s career with the Army and then later in The North Carolina Air National Guard, she worked at the Army's Officers Club at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland. Her career in supervising manufacturing continued as she worked for Vale Hosiery and then for Magla Kitchen Products.

Shirley and Paul lived a beautiful 54 year long marriage embodying the beauty of commitment and steadfastness. Shirley also deeply loved her Lord and Savior and that love overflowed from her out of the deep abundance of His grace.

Nurturing and loving on her family through home cooked meals, handmade quilts, acts of service and affectionate touch, she left a tangible legacy of love to her 6 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She embraced opportunities to make memories with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren whether it was gardening or growing things, watching sports games or music recitals, sewing, making banana pudding, teaching them household chores or reading them stories. She had a way of mending more than just garments and a way of bringing life to everything she grew–plants and people alike. Her trademark was thoughtfulness and gratitude and all that she came in contact with knew just how much she treasured them. People knew her care and love for them because she was generous with her smiles, her touch, her time, her words of encouragement, her love, her money, and her hand-crocheting and quilting. She made friends everywhere she traveled or lived and all were happy to know and be known by her.

Shirley’s life is being remembered and celebrated at a private graveside service for family in Lincolnton, N.C.
