( June 29, 1952 - July 31, 2023 )
Joseph Hugh “Joey or Joe” Brown, Jr. of Lincolnton, NC, passed away on July 31st, 2023, after an extended illness.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 until 10:45 a.m. on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at Warlick Funeral Home, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Shea Houser officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Brown was born June 29, 1952 in Durham, NC, to the late Joseph H. Brown, Sr. and Jean B. Allaband. He has been released from his earthly pain and has been joyfully reunited with his beloved wife of 41 years, Barbara “Libby” Senter Brown, who predeceased him recently. He was educated in Durham public schools and graduated from the University of Alabama with a major in Geography, a field that was his lifelong interest. He ultimately found his dream career as a Geographic Information Systems (GIS) specialist with Charlotte-Mecklenburg County, from which he retired. One of his great pleasures was taking day trips with Libby, driving through the North Carolina mountains. Another of his abiding loves was music, particularly Jazz. He had a great memory for people, dates, and places and had an encyclopedic knowledge of geographical information and music history. Joey was a kind and gentle person who cared deeply for family and friends and never had a harsh word for anyone.

He is survived by a sister, Delores “Dee Dee” Kells and husband Richard “Dick” of Fayetteville, NC; step-son, Scott Douglas Dellinger and wife Dawn Renee of Lincolnton; step-daughter, Lisa Marie Dellinger Bagwell of Lincolnton; brother-in-law, Torrence “Allen” Senter of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Jill Dean Senter Woods of Charlotte; grandchildren, Kirstin McKahl Pulcini and husband Jonny, Chayton Allen Dellinger, Caillou Douglas Dellinger, Corporal James “Jake” Harold Bagwell, Jr., Lauren “Lexi” Alexis Bagwell; nephews Richard “Rich” Kells and wife Andrea, daughters Naomi and Maryanna, of Durham and John Kells and wife Lacy, children John Palmer, Mary Prescott, and Simone “Simmie”, of Fayetteville, NC; and numerous cousins.

The family extends sincere thanks the caring staff of The Addison of Lincolnton for their care and compassion over the past two years.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Salem Baptist Church Benevolent Fund, 1982 Salem Church Road, Lincolnton, NC  28092, or to a charity of one’s choosing.
