Rev. Dr. Gordon Nance Benton

Rev. Dr. Gordon Nance Benton, age 71, of Lincolnton, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023.
His funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 6, 2023 at Boger City Baptist Church with Rev. Bill Bigham. Rev. Charles Inman and Rev. Wayne Wike officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 in Sharon Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at Boger City Baptist Church.
Rev. Benton was born March 12, 1952, in Mecklenburg County, to the late Thurman Nance and Moretha Almond Benton. Rev. Benton attended The Southern Baptist Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky. He served numerous churches during his ministry, including Clear Creek Baptist Church, Midland, NC; Elkhardt Baptist Church, Richmond, VA; Mountain Grove Baptist Church, Hickory, NC; Beech Glen Baptist Church, Madison County, NC. He also served at Mars Hill College in Mars Hill, NC and was interim pastor at various other churches.
Survivors include his loving wife of forty seven years, Cynthia R. Benton of the home; one son, Luke Andrew Benton and wife Laura Bokus Benton of Hickory; three grandchildren, Owen Todd Benton, Emma Jane Benton and Olivia Grace Benton.
Memorials may be made to Boger City Baptist Church, 2201 E Main St, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
