Franklin Howard Herndon, Sr., age 88, of Iron Station, died on Sunday, September 3, 2023.
Mr. Herndon was born May 30, 1935, in Lincoln County, to the late Hugh Herndon, Sr. and Flora Ramseur Herndon. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict and later worked for New York City Transportation Services.
He is survived by his wife, Maria Velasquez Herndon of the home; sons, Joseph Herndon of CT, Franklin Herndon, Jr. of Dallas, and Gregory Herndon of Atlanta, GA; daughters, Maria Torres of FL and Tisha Propst of Maiden; brothers, Thomas Herndon of MD and “Rocky” Herndon of Syracuse, NY; and sisters, Elizabeth Boston of MD and Priscilla Kornegay of Charlotte.
Services will be private. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Cemetery with DAV military rites.
