John McNiell Wallace, Jr.

John McNiell Wallace, Jr., born January 13, 1932 in Bradenton Florida, who resided in Lincolnton North Carolina, died Monday October 30, 2023 at the age of 91.  He was the son of John McNiell Wallace and Mayme Lee Smith from Bradenton Florida.  His younger brother was Colonel Richard Wallace and his half-brothers are George & Leland Wallace.  Diana Wallace Barh was his first wife and together they had four surviving children.  The surviving children all grew up and currently resides in the Atlanta Georgia suburbs. Names listed in order are Harriet Elizabeth Wallace, Wesley Alexander Wallace, Polianna Wallace Evans with grandchildren Parker and Palmer Evans and John McNiell Wallace lll, with grandchildren Sarah and William Wallace.

John’s surviving wife is Sylvia Stoudemire Wallace from Lincolnton North Carolina. They were married in 1981. They time between sharing time between Atlanta and the Lincolnton Farm.  John was a loving husband.

John attended Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida where he played football and tennis. John attained his Eagle rank in the Scouts of America.  He graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was member of the Delta Lau Delta fraternity and the president of the Key Club.  John played tennis for the University of Florida. John was a veteran and served his country in the US Army as a specialist during the Korean War.

John’s career excelled in the HVAC, Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning, business. He specialized in mechanical air controls in commercial buildings. He established his own company, E3 Engineering, and worked as a professional engineer in Atlanta and other metropolitan areas. He served has the president of ASHREA (American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning) Atlanta Chapter in 1988-89.  

John’s pastimes included enjoying the outdoors, fishing and hunting with his brothers while growing up in Florida.  Football was his love and tennis his art.  John became an advanced tennis player, and a devoted football fan of the Florida Gators and the Atlanta Falcons.  In retirement, John became a Master Gardner and was on the advisory committee of the Lincoln County Cooperative Extension.  While on the farm he enjoyed tending to the blueberry bushes, the many varieties of muscadines and planted trees for current and future generations to enjoy.  

John McNiell Wallace Jr. has an impressive life resume; however, it pales in comparison to the capabilities of his mathematical brain. He could explain Avogadro Number, navigate by the stars, and often computed faster than my calculator. His craft of mechanical knowledge was nothing less than impressive.  He truly loved and practiced in the craft of Jerry Rigging anything that needed to be repaired.  If there was a club for rigging recognition, he would be inducted.

A funeral service for Mr. Wallace will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 06, 2023, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dr. Leonard H. Bolick officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery of Lincolnton, NC.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 12:45 p.m. on Monday at Warlick Funeral Home prior to the service.
