Alvin Thomas Smith, Jr.

Alvin Thomas Smith, Jr., age 93, of Lincolnton passed away Friday, November 17, 2023, peacefully at Peak Resources in Cherryville. He was born at home to the late Alvin Thomas Smith Sr. and Annie Mae B. Smith.
Mr. Smith was a lifelong member of Ivey Memorial Methodist Church where he served as a Trustee, member of the United Methodist Men’s group, and sang in the choir for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #137. Alvin Thomas was a pipefitter, farmer, and welder. He worked for Johnson Controls and Honeywell. He and his wife owned and operated Country Corner for 12 years before he officially retired. His greatest joys in life were his children, grandchildren, and spending time with his family.
Mr. Smith is survived by his daughters, Lori S. Dossey (Keith) and Cindy S. Lancaster (Chris); grandchildren, Mason Lancaster, Mattie Lancaster, and Jacob Dossey; sisters, Sue Lail and Nancy Hoyle; and sisters-in-law, Barbara Smith, Evelyn Fletcher, and Jan Goodson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 63 years, Wilma Goodson Smith; brother, Harold Smith; and sisters, Ruth Auton, Prue Wright, and Edna Cash.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Peak Resources in Cherryville for the love and care shown to Alvin and the family during his residency. We would also like to personally thank Jessie Hopper for being such an outstanding caregiver to our beloved daddy. She was our eyes and ears, which gave us extreme peace.
The funeral service for Mr. Smith will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, at Ivey Memorial Methodist Church in Maiden, with Pastors Tim Byrd and Eric Reel officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery of Lincolnton. The family will receive friends from 10:30 until 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday at Ivey Memorial Methodist Church prior to the funeral service.
